Remote code execution via unescaped overlay identity
Published Aug 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 9, 2024
Remote code execution in VRCX before 2024.03.23 allows remote authenticated users to execute local programs through overlay notifications. The overlay renderer inserts a spoofed VRChat display name into Noty HTML without escaping, and its CefSharp context exposes AppApi.StartGameFromPath to that script. Exploitation requires a crafted VRChat log entry to trigger an overlay while the victim uses the HMD, after which the process runs with VRCX user privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
