Authenticated code execution via unsafe YAML deserialization
Published Aug 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 20, 2024
Unsafe deserialization in Zendesk Samson before 3385 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through a crafted Kubernetes role. Kubernetes::RoleVerificationsController passes the role parameter through RoleConfigFile to Kubernetes::Util.parse_file, which invokes YAML.load_stream on attacker-supplied YAML and permits arbitrary Ruby object instantiation. A logged-in user with access to the role-verification endpoint can run commands with the Samson server process's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
