CVE-2024-42358Public exploit

Application hang via unchecked TrueType group count

Published Aug 6, 2024 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Denial of service in PDFio before 1.3.1 allows attackers to hang applications by supplying a crafted TrueType font for parsing. The read_cmap function trusts cmap character and group counts when allocating and iterating records, permitting excessive allocation and a nonterminating loop. Any application that passes an attacker-controlled font to the library can exhaust memory or CPU and stop processing; the advisory also demonstrates a heap-buffer-overflow crash.
