Authenticated code execution via unsafe YAML imports
Published Sep 21, 2024 · Updated Sep 23, 2024
Unsafe deserialization in Apache HertzBeat before 1.6.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through imported YAML. The monitor and alert-definition import endpoints pass attacker-supplied YAML to SnakeYAML, which instantiates tagged Java classes, including an H2 JDBC connection whose INIT clause runs Java. A valid HertzBeat account and access to an import function are required; successful exploitation executes commands in the server JVM context.
