Service interruption via uninitialized HFS inode fields
Published Aug 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Uninitialized resource use in the Linux kernel HFS driver allows local users to interrupt service through HFS filesystem operations. hfs_alloc_inode leaves tz_secondswest, cached_start, and cached_blocks unset before later HFS paths read those fields. Reachability requires local access and an HFS mount workflow; the published assessment limits the consequence to availability.
