CVE-2024-42282

Kernel crash via NULL dummy net_device free

Published Aug 17, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the MediaTek Ethernet driver in Linux 6.10 through 6.10.2 allows local users to crash the kernel. The mtk_probe error path leaves eth->dummy_dev NULL when alloc_netdev_dummy fails, and mtk_free_dev passes that pointer to free_netdev. The fault requires a failed dummy-device allocation during driver probing; dereferencing the resulting NULL pointer interrupts the host.
