CVE-2024-42154

Kernel memory exposure via undersized IPv4 attribute

Published Jul 30, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Improper input validation in Linux 3.14 through 6.10-rc6 allows local users to expose kernel memory via malformed netlink input. The tcp_metrics netlink policy omits a type and length rule for TCP_METRICS_ATTR_SADDR_IPV4, so processing accepts fewer than four address bytes. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access; published evidence does not establish code execution or service interruption.
