CVE-2024-42132

Bluetooth service interruption via out-of-range handle

Published Jul 30, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Improper handle validation in the Linux Bluetooth HCI subsystem allows physically proximate attackers to interrupt Bluetooth service. The hci_le_big_sync_established_evt handler accepts a connection handle above HCI_CONN_HANDLE_MAX, causing hci_conn_del to free an ID that the IDA allocator never allocated. An unauthenticated Bluetooth LE peer in radio range can trigger the warning; affected systems can lose Bluetooth connections or panic when panic_on_warn is enabled.
