CVE-2024-42119

Local kernel-memory access via negative audio index

Published Jul 30, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in Linux AMD display code allows local users to read or alter kernel memory and crash the system. The audio-resource lookup in drivers/gpu/drm/amd/display/dc/core/dc_resource.c uses ENGINE_ID_UNKNOWN, whose value is -1, as an array index while searching for free audio, producing two overruns. Reachability requires a local low-privileged user and the AMD Display Core path to handle an unknown, uninitialized engine identifier; no remote trigger is documented.
