CVE-2024-42087

Local availability failure via non-sleeping GPIO access

Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Improper GPIO handling in the Linux kernel allows local users to cause an availability failure through an affected display panel. The ilitek-ili9881c panel driver's reset path calls gpiod_set_value(), a non-sleeping accessor, even when the GPIO controller requires sleeping. Reachability requires the ILI9881C panel driver and a sleep-capable GPIO controller; kernel.org reports a warning but does not publish the resulting failure mode.
