System hang via recursive DWC3 lock acquisition
Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026
Improper locking in the Linux DWC3 USB core from 6.1 allows local users to hang the system by initiating system suspend. In dual-role mode, dwc3_suspend_common holds dwc->lock while dwc3_gadget_soft_disconnect attempts to acquire the same spinlock again. Reachability requires CONFIG_USB_DWC3_DUAL_ROLE and local access capable of initiating system suspend; the resulting impact is an availability-only hang.
