CVE-2024-4207Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-site scripting via inline XHTML responses

Published Aug 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 29, 2024

Cross-site scripting in affected GitLab releases allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in another user's browser. GitLab's raw-file API returned attacker-controlled .xhtml content as text/plain but set Content-Disposition to inline with the original .xhtml filename, causing iOS WebKit browsers to sniff and render the response as HTML. Exploitation requires repository or snippet content under attacker control and a victim to open its raw API URL on an affected iOS browser; script execution is limited by the instance's Content Security Policy.
