CVE-2024-42027Network attack vector

E2EE password cracking via low-entropy generation

Published Oct 7, 2024 · Updated Oct 7, 2024

Weak E2EE credential generation in Rocket.Chat Mobile before 4.5.1 allows attackers to crack users' E2EE passwords. The public record identifies the mobile client's E2EE password generator as the locus but does not disclose its entropy source, output length, or generation algorithm. Exploitation requires access to password-protected E2EE material plus sufficient cracking time and resources, after which encrypted-message confidentiality and integrity are at risk.
