Email theft via unsafe inline attachment rendering
Published Aug 5, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Roundcube 1.5.7 and earlier and 1.6.0 through 1.6.7 allows remote attackers to steal and send email via an attachment. rcmail_action_mail_get->run() serves inline attachments using attacker-controlled MIME types, letting XML and other active content execute as same-origin script. A victim must click the attachment link; successful script execution can read mail and contacts, send messages, steal credentials, and register a persistent service worker.
