CVE-2024-41978Network attack vector

2FA token forgery via sensitive logging

Published Aug 13, 2024 · Updated Aug 13, 2024

Sensitive-data logging in Siemens industrial router firmware before 8.1 allows remote authenticated users to forge other users' 2FA tokens. The firmware writes sensitive information used during 2FA token generation into device log files, exposing material needed to create valid tokens. Exploitation requires authenticated remote access and yields impersonation through forged second-factor tokens, with no reported code execution or service interruption.
