Root file writes via savesram path traversal
Published Nov 18, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2025
Path traversal in the CODESYS PLC Shell savesram command on affected WAGO controllers allows remote authenticated users to write files as root. The command accepts ../ sequences in its destination parameter, and the privileged server daemon appends .ret before writing outside the intended directory. A valid low-privilege PLC Shell session is required; successful exploitation can replace or create root-owned files and interrupt device operation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
