CVE-2024-41972Network attack vector

Root-privileged file disclosure via restoresram path traversal

Published Nov 18, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2025

Path traversal in the CODESYS PLC Shell restoresram command on affected WAGO controllers allows remote authenticated users to read files as root. The command fails to sanitize its backup-path parameter before a root CODESYS daemon resolves it outside the intended directory and appends .ret. A valid low-privileged session is required, and the resulting exposure is limited to arbitrary file contents accessible to root.
