Account takeover via wrong-user authenticator lookup
Published Aug 5, 2024 · Updated Aug 7, 2024
Authentication bypass in mailcow: dockerized before 2024-07 allows remote authenticated users to access 2FA-protected accounts. The get_tfa() function replaced a supplied target username with the attacker's session username, so login checked the wrong account's authenticators. Exploitation requires an existing account plus the target account's password and grants access to that target without its second factor.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
