CVE-2024-41880Network attack vector

Safety-route deanonymization via direct first-hop pings

Published Jul 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Observable discrepancy in Veilid before 0.3.4 allows remote attackers to correlate a safety-route user's identity with an IP address. Routing-table liveness validation directly pings a first-hop node learned only through a private route instead of keeping that peer inside the private-route test path. An attacker must publish and operate a reachable private-route endpoint; observing the victim node's direct ping reveals its source IP and weakens route anonymity.
