Stored XSS via pre-conversion Markdown sanitization

Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Stored XSS in Note Mark 0.13.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary scripts through a crafted note link. The renderer sanitizes raw Markdown before converting it to HTML, leaving generated href values unsanitized and permitting javascript: URLs. Exploitation requires a victim to open the stored link, executing script in the victim's browser with access to Note Mark data and actions.
