CVE-2024-41817Public exploit

Local code execution via empty AppImage search paths

Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Uncontrolled search paths in ImageMagick AppImage 7.1.1-35 and earlier allow local users to execute code through working-directory files. The AppRun script appends empty elements to MAGICK_CONFIGURE_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, causing configuration or shared-library lookup in the current directory. Exploitation requires control of a file in that directory when the AppImage runs, and successful loading executes code in that process's security context.
