Session establishment via reusable TOTP tokens
Published Jul 25, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper authentication in Pixel & Tonic Craft CMS 5.0.0-beta.1 through 5.2.2 allows remote attackers to reuse a TOTP and establish a session. The TOTP::verify method calls verifyKey without recording or comparing the token's time step, so the same accepted code remains valid for repeated submissions. Exploitation requires the victim's credentials and a still-valid TOTP; successful reuse grants a second authenticated session under that account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
