Code execution via unsanitized Markdown HTML blocks
Published Jul 24, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Cross-site scripting in VNote 3.18.1 and earlier allows local users to execute code when crafted Markdown is rendered. The MarkdownIt XSS plug-in filters inline HTML tokens but leaves HTML block tokens unsanitized before the desktop viewer renders them. A user must render an attacker-supplied note; successful exploitation runs code with the desktop user's privileges.
