CVE-2024-41637Public exploit

Root code execution via writable systemd unit

Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Privilege escalation in RaspAP before 3.1.5 allows local users with www-data access to execute arbitrary code as root. The installer leaves /lib/systemd/system/restapi.service owned by www-data, permitting replacement of its root-run ExecStart or ExecStop command. Exploitation requires control of the www-data account and uses its passwordless reboot and systemctl permissions to reload and run the modified unit.
