Query-worker panic via unchecked expression return type
Published Sep 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 25, 2024
Improper type handling in PingCAP TiDB 8.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to trigger a query-worker panic with crafted SQL. RemoveUnnecessaryFirstRow compares expressions between Agg and GroupBy without checking return types, causing GetDecimal to index beyond its column buffer. A database account able to submit the query is required; PingCAP reports no interruption to other users and disputes the claimed denial of service.
