Memory disclosure and corruption via overlay arithmetic
Published Oct 15, 2024 · Updated Oct 23, 2024
Out-of-bounds memory access in Struktur AG libheif 1.17.6 allows context-dependent attackers to read or write memory via a crafted HEIF file. HeifPixelImage::overlay trusts signed overlay offsets, allowing addition overflow for very large values and undefined negation of INT_MIN before buffer copying. A victim application must decode the crafted file; the read can expose process memory, while the write can corrupt memory or crash the decoder.
