Verification-code disclosure via disabled TLS validation
Published Jul 31, 2024 · Updated Mar 18, 2025
Improper certificate validation in Filestash 0.4 and earlier allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read email verification codes. ShareProofVerifier sets the SMTP dialer's TLS configuration to InsecureSkipVerify, accepting an unverified mail server certificate. Exploitation requires control of the SMTP network path and exposes codes sent by email; no availability impact is reported.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
