CVE-2024-41128Network attack vector

Service interruption via backtracking query filter

Published Oct 16, 2024 · Updated Oct 17, 2024

Regular expression denial of service in Rails Action Pack allows remote attackers to interrupt service via crafted query parameters. ActionDispatch::Http::FilterParameters#filtered_query_string applies a global key-value regular expression whose separator handling permits excessive backtracking on hostile query strings. The unauthenticated request path is affected only when a listed Action Pack release runs on Ruby before 3.2, and repeated requests can delay response processing.
