CVE-2024-41094

Service interruption via vmalloc physical-address conversion

Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Improper DMA memory handling in Linux 6.4 allows local users to interrupt system availability through fbdev initialization. drm_fbdev_dma_helper_fb_probe writes fix.smem_start by converting a vmalloc-backed framebuffer address with virt_to_phys, although vmalloc memory is not physically contiguous. Reachability requires the DRM fbdev DMA path and vmalloc-backed framebuffer memory; the documented failure emits a kernel warning and can deny availability.
