Kernel crash via cleared audio-stream pointer
Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel during system suspend with an active audio stream on Intel HDA systems. In hda_dai_suspend(), hda_link_dma_cleanup() clears hext_stream->link_substream before hda_ipc4_post_trigger() dereferences the resulting NULL snd_pcm_substream pointer. The path requires an Intel SOF HDA configuration, an active audio stream, and entry into system suspend; the dereference interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
