Restricted NVMEM disclosure via permissive cell attributes
Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Information disclosure in Linux kernel 6.8 through 6.9.9 allows local users to read restricted NVMEM cells through sysfs. drivers/nvmem/core.c assigns every cell attribute mode 0444 without intersecting it with the main NVMEM attribute's provider-derived permissions. Exposure requires CONFIG_NVMEM_SYSFS, an exported cell, and a provider such as root_only that restricts the main attribute; the consequence is unauthorized disclosure of device configuration data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
