Kernel crash via truncated ACPICA region mapping
Published Jul 12, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel ACPICA allows local users to crash the system through a page-crossing operation-region access. The mapper stops at the page boundary but passes the original requested length to the read or write path, which accesses the unmapped remainder and dereferences NULL. Reaching the fault requires local low-privileged access and a crossing operation-region request; the demonstrated consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
