Service interruption via unsafe virtual-console line discipline
Published Jul 12, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel allows local users to trigger a kernel BUG by attaching N_GSM to a virtual console. tty_set_ldisc accepts N_GSM for a virtual terminal, after which gsmld_write calls the sleep-capable con_write while holding a spinlock and con_write attempts to acquire the console lock. The user must control a virtual console and change its line discipline; the invalid-context sleep interrupts the system when BUG handling is fatal.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
