Kernel crash via unchecked IPv6 device lookup
Published Jul 12, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux IPv6 routing allows local users to crash affected systems through a crafted route operation. fib6_nh_init passes an in6_dev_get result through gateway validation and later dereferences it without first rejecting NULL. Local access and permission to add an IPv6 route are required, and the documented consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
