Local kernel hang via softirq lock reentry
Published Jul 12, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026
Improper locking in mac80211 in Linux and Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500 TM MFP allows local users to hang the kernel during Wi-Fi station wakeup. ieee80211_sta_ps_deliver_wakeup() takes sta->ps_lock with spin_lock(), leaving same-CPU softirqs enabled so ieee80211_tx_h_unicast_ps_buf() can re-enter and wait forever on that lock. The trigger requires low-privileged local access and an affected mac80211 Wi-Fi path; the observed consequence is an RCU stall that interrupts service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
