Kernel crash via unlocked station lookup race
Published Jul 12, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel cfg80211 allows local users to crash the kernel during Wi-Fi station reconnect activity. cfg80211_get_station calls rdev_get_station without holding the wiphy lock, letting delayed batman-adv work access ath10k station data while it is being reset. Reachability requires the affected wireless stack and a disconnect-reconnect race; the demonstrated consequence is a kernel oops and service interruption.
