Protected-filesystem modification via undisclosed sudo checks
Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Improper permission preservation in sudo in Apple macOS before 14.6 allows local users to modify protected filesystem areas. Apple identifies improved checks as the correction but has not disclosed the affected sudo operation or its handling of application-controlled input. Execution of a local application is required, and successful exploitation permits writes to filesystem locations normally protected from that application.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
