App termination via ImageIO out-of-bounds read
Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Apple ImageIO across affected operating systems allows attackers to terminate an app by processing a crafted file. ImageIO insufficiently validates a malicious file before reading from its buffer, allowing the decoder to access data beyond the buffer boundary. A user must cause an affected app to process the file; the reported consequence is app termination, not code execution or data modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
