Information disclosure via WebCodecs buffer over-read
Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in WebKit on affected Apple platforms allows remote attackers to disclose data through malicious web content. The VideoFrame WebCodecs API fails to validate user-supplied data before reading past the end of an allocated buffer. Exploitation requires a user to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file; Apple reports a process crash, while ZDI identifies limited disclosure and possible chaining with other flaws.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <16.7.9
