CVE-2024-40771

Kernel code execution via AVEVideoEncoder memory handling

Published Jan 15, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2026

A memory-handling flaw in AVEVideoEncoder across Apple operating systems allows local users to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple identifies deficient memory handling in the encoder but has not disclosed the faulty operation or attacker-controlled input that triggers it. A locally running app must reach the affected encoder, and successful exploitation grants kernel-level code execution.
