Remote daemon termination via stale-authoritative query collision
Published Jul 23, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Denial of service in Internet Systems Consortium BIND 9 affected releases allows remote attackers to terminate named via crafted DNS queries. When a query needs both stale cached data and a lookup in locally authoritative zone data, named reaches an invalid logic state and fires an assertion. Reachability requires stale-answer service, qualifying stale cache data, and authoritative zone content; successful exploitation crashes the DNS daemon.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
