CVE-2024-40674

Local denial of service via oversized plaintext SSID

Published Jan 28, 2025 · Updated Feb 3, 2025

Denial of service in Android 14 Wi-Fi allows local users to interrupt device operation through an oversized plaintext SSID. WifiConfigurationUtil.validateSsid accepts plaintext SSIDs of arbitrary length instead of enforcing the 32-character limit, allowing oversized data to overflow a system configuration file. An external application can supply the SSID without added execution privileges or user interaction, and the documented consequence is availability loss rather than code execution.
