CVE-2024-40672

Local privilege escalation via unguarded FRP sharesheet

Published Jan 28, 2025 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Improper permission enforcement in Android 12, 12L, 13, and 14 allows local users to bypass factory reset protection via the sharesheet. ChooserActivity.onCreate launches sharing without checking Settings.Secure.SECURE_FRP_MODE and stopping when the FRP lock is active. No user interaction or prior execution privileges are required; access to the locked device reaches sharing capabilities that FRP should suppress.
