Authenticated router compromise via password buffer overflow
Published Apr 23, 2024 · Updated Sep 3, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in Tenda AC8 16.03.34.09 allows remote authenticated users to crash or control the router. R7WebsSecurityHandler copies an oversized password value from a management HTTP request into a fixed-size stack buffer without enforcing its length. Access to the router management service and low-privilege authentication are required; exploitation can interrupt service or compromise device confidentiality and integrity.
