CVE-2024-40634Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated service crash via unbounded webhook payload

Published Jul 22, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Uncontrolled resource consumption in Argo CD allows remote attackers to crash argocd-server through the unauthenticated webhook. The /api/webhook handler parses an arbitrarily large JSON request body without a byte limit, causing memory allocation until Kubernetes OOM-kills the server. Exposure requires network access to the always-listening endpoint, which lacks authentication by default; successful exploitation interrupts the Argo CD API service without reported data disclosure or modification.
