Proxy shutdown via unauthenticated localhost admin request
Published Jul 15, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
SSRF-assisted denial of service in Linkerd before edge-24.6.2 allows remote attackers to stop a proxy through its admin endpoint. The admin server accepts an unauthenticated localhost POST to /shutdown and immediately signals the proxy to terminate. Exploitation requires an application behind the proxy that can be induced through SSRF to request localhost:4191/shutdown; only that proxy's service is interrupted.
