CVE-2024-40619Network attack vector

Controller halt via malformed CIP packet

Published Aug 14, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2024

Improper exceptional-condition handling in ControlLogix and GuardLogix 5580 firmware 34.011 allows remote attackers to halt controllers. The controller's CIP packet-processing path fails to handle malformed network input and enters a major nonrecoverable fault. No authentication or user interaction is required; exploitation stops controller availability, with no reported data disclosure or modification.
