CVE-2024-40597Network attack vector

Suppressed log disclosure via ignored deletion flags

Published Jul 6, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Information disclosure in MediaWiki CheckUser through 1.42.1 allows remote authenticated users to view suppressed log-event data. Special:CheckUser's Get actions path formats log events without applying each event's log_deleted suppression flags, so deleted fields remain visible. Access requires the checkuser right; the consequence is limited to disclosure of suppressed event information, with no reported data modification or service interruption.
