Suppressed log disclosure via omitted log identifiers
Published Jul 6, 2024 · Updated Mar 18, 2025
Information disclosure in the CheckUser extension for MediaWiki through 1.42.1 allows remote authenticated users to view suppressed log-event data. Special:Investigate's TimelineService does not store the associated log ID, preventing revision-deletion status checks before results are displayed. Access requires the investigate right, but suppressor or oversight permission is not required, exposing hidden log actions to lower-privileged CheckUser users.
