CVE-2024-40568Public exploit

Unauthenticated code execution via PB-ADV buffer overwrite

Published Sep 18, 2024 · Updated Sep 19, 2024

Buffer overflow in BTstack mesh before 864e2f2b6b7878c8fab3cf5ee84ae566e3380c58 allows remote attackers to execute code via a malformed PB-ADV PDU. In pb_adv_handle_transaction_cont, an attacker-controlled segment number produces an offset as high as 135, and memcpy writes fragment data past the 100-byte pb_adv_msg_in_buffer without a complete bounds check. An unauthenticated, physically proximate BLE mesh device must reach an active PB-ADV provisioning procedure; successful exploitation can crash the provisioner or overwrite adjacent state for code execution.
